Office of the Arizona Governor Doug Ducey issued the following announcement on May 5.

Governor Doug Ducey declared today, May 5, 2020, Arizona Teacher Appreciation Day to recognize the critical role teachers play in the lives and success of students. Arizona teachers have found innovative and effective ways to engage students and are ensuring continued learning while schools are closed during COVID-19.

“Teachers across Arizona work hard to inspire, encourage and prepare their students,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizona is grateful to teachers for their dedication to supporting students of all ages, setting them up for a bright future and keeping them engaged.”

WHEREAS, the success of Arizona’s students impacts the strength of our communities, our future workforce and our economy; and

WHEREAS, teachers play a critical role in the lives of their students and help lay the foundation for ongoing success in school and in life; and

WHEREAS, educators across the state—at every level—nurture, inspire and encourage the academic, social and emotional growth of their students; and

WHEREAS, we face unprecedented times in our local communities and throughout Arizona; and

WHEREAS, teachers in preschool, K-12 schools, career and technical programs, colleges; and universities are finding innovative ways to support student learning as physical schools are closed for the remainder of the academic year; and

WHEREAS, educators in every corner of the state are working tirelessly to provide for their students’ basic needs as well as their ongoing education; and

WHEREAS, educators devote countless hours to preparing lessons, delivering instruction, and developing character, compassion and creativity in their students; and

WHEREAS, Arizona’s educators deserve our respect and gratitude for their dedication to our students and positive impact on our state; and

WHEREAS, Arizona’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected” policy encourages Arizonans to improve social connectedness and necessitates finding unique ways to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Douglas A. Ducey, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim May 5, 2020, as

ARIZONA TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY

 

and encourage all residents to join in safely celebrating Arizona teachers.
