BMO has announced the expansion of its BMORE initiative, a program designed to eradicate employment barriers and bolster opportunities in banking and finance for historically marginalized communities. The initiative was launched three years ago in partnership with Cara Collective.

The bank's BMORE program is set to extend its reach to Phoenix and will be introduced in Southern California by mid-2024. This expansion extends the initiative's presence from Chicago and Milwaukee to Madison, Wisconsin. So far, the program has recruited 102 associate bankers, targeting individuals with diverse skills beyond banking and offering comprehensive onboarding and ongoing mentorship. BMO has invested $500,000 in Cara Collective for recruitment, training, and retention purposes. Meanwhile, ACT, a community organization focused on enhancing Austin, annually acknowledges contributions to its mission, according to a press release by BMO.

"BMORE is about connecting with our local communities to develop a pipeline of diverse talent and pathways to better-paying careers within the banking and financial services industry," said Carolyn Booth, Head of U.S. Distribution for U.S. Personal and Business Banking at BMO, as per the same press release. "Not only is BMO opening up new doors to those in historically underserved communities, but through our BMORE hires, we are also able to build deeper relationships with our customers to help them make real financial progress."

Booth's colleague Bernard Narine, Regional President and Head of Retail Banking for the U.S. Southern Region at BMO echoed her sentiments. "BMO's BMORE program exemplifies how we are living out our Purpose - to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life," he said in the press release. "We are thrilled to welcome the program to the broad talent pool in Arizona and I look forward to continuing growing the program across our footprint."

Cara Collective's mission aligns closely with that of BMORE; it aims to create customized employment pathways that foster individual and community success. The organization is committed to combating relational and financial poverty on a national scale, emphasizing a tailored approach that guides individuals to leverage their unique strengths for employment, according to the About webpage provided by Cara Collective.
